Dubai, June 5 ,2012 : Etisalat Academy (ETAC) participated in Emirates Environmental Group’s (EEG) expansive Recycling Programs Awarding Ceremony in commemoration of World Environment Day, on June 5, 2012 at Knowledge Village, Dubai.

ETAC participated in EEG’s expansive Waste Management portfolio consisting of Plastic, Can, Paper and Glass Recycling and was awarded Certificates of Appreciation from EEG for the same. ETAC was ranked 4th for Plastic, 7th for Can, 8th for Paper and 9th for its Glass recycling initiatives.

David Brennan, General Manager, Etisalat Academy, says, “It is wonderful for Etisalat Academy to be recognized again this year for our recycling initiatives in plastic, cans, paper and glass. We are passionate and sincere in our efforts to contribute to a healthier, cleaner UAE.“

He added, “I encourage every individual and company from all corners of the UAE to get involved. It’s easy to do and has excellent rewards for the country. Buying smart and recycling instead of disposing items in the trash help us create a healthier and greener environment for future generations.”

Participants included 377 academic institutions, 1031 corporate bodies and 652 individuals/families.

The Recycling Awards are held every year to honour and reward members and supporters who have stood by EEG in its journey towards sustainability. These individuals, companies and educational institutions have participated and excelled in EEG’s expansive Waste Management portfolio consisting of Paper, Plastic, Glass, Aluminium Cans, Toners, Batters, Mobile Phones and TetraPak Beverage Containers.

ETAC formed a voluntary staff ‘Green Group’ in 2009 to pursue ways to ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ in the workplace, and has worked with environmental groups to achieve reductions.

Other green initiatives at ETAC include:

  • saving on electricity usage through management of air conditioning
  • reduction in water usage due to cutback strategies
  • changing over to energy efficient bulbs
  • a Green Day clean up & collection of reusable stationery items
  • installing water coolers in each learning room and using glasses instead of individual plastic water bottles and cups
  • placing recycling bins campus wide for all recyclables
  • ordering new carpets made from recycled materials
  • recycling water to use in our gardens
  • offsetting carbon footprint with tree planting
  • using 100% recycled paper for printing

Etisalat Academy’s Recycling Centre has three cages and various bins for collecting different types of recyclable material. Individuals can join in by dropping off plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, and aluminium cans, toner cartridges and batteries at the Recycling Center on our campus.
