The Etisalat Academy formed a voluntary staff ‘Green Group’ in 2009 to pursue ways to ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ in the workplace, and has worked with the EEG to achieve reductions.
David Brennan, General Manager of the Etisalat Academy, expressed, “I am extremely proud for the Academy to receive recognition in four categories. It is very important for the nation to recycle and reuse, particularly to preserve this great country for the generations who follow. That is why the Academy began this program, and also, to showcase the genuine concern Etisalat has for the environment. This recognition demonstrates what difference each of us can make to creating a greener, cleaner world.”
“This achievement is driven by the Academy Green Group, supported by the catering and cleaning contractors we have. This is their success. I appreciate their efforts, support and dedication to making a difference.” he added.
Abdulla Al Hajji, Green Group member said “We just do what we can to make a difference. It is amazing to see what happens when you recycle because it really does make an impact. We feel very proud to receive this recognition for what we think, is just doing the right thing for the world.”
In our aim to be the greenest training facility in the UAE, we have initiated the usage of the Academy’s recycled water for the gardens. Besides this, there has been a drastic reduction in the use of electricity for lighting and computer usage. The ‘Green Group’ has cut back the usage of excess cleaning agents campus-wide, thereby reducing unnatural chemicals in the environment. And, most significantly we have eliminated hundreds of plastic bottles and glasses per week for delegates, replacing them with glass ones along with a water dispenser in every learning room.
Set up in partnership with the Emirates Environmental Group, Etisalat Academy’s Recycling Centre has three cages and various bins for collecting different types of recyclable material. Some items are recycled locally, whilst others are exported to other countries.
